Quiz
2007 £224.17 raised on the night Following on from last year's successful quiz night in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT), the club decided to put this year's effort in aid of the same charity. The only difference being, that the monies raised would be held by the trustees for Ian Walker's around Britain coast ride and presented to the Trust all together.
Held in The Old Union Inn, Stibb Cross, the quiz proved just as popular as last year with around 60 people taking part. The quiz had 8 rounds of 8 questions with a raffle and excellent buffet at half time. B.A.N.D members contributed to the raffle prizes along with Dick Feather Motorcycles(DFM) in Bradworthy, Shebbear Post Office and Mike Wye & Associates of Buckland Filleigh.
The raffle was massively successful with some very worthwhile prizes. Among the dozen on offer were bottles of spirits, hampers, a leather office chair and of course a couple of cuddly toys. A big thank you goes out to all those who made contributions to this.
Ian Walker spent much of the night chatting to people about his planned ride in the summer and taking sponsors. His 1988 Honda Transalp was on view for all to see, complete with panniers and luggage. The public viewing was in doubt a short while before as Ian had let Dave ride the bike off-road and Dave took it a little further and went 'off bike'! An oily rag and a few tweaks here and there and the bike was once more ready to meet the public. Last year Jo Palmer's team had the dubious honour of receiving the wooden spoon. She was clearly not upset by this as she kept it all year and returned it for this years bottom team. In between time, she showed great artistic bent by painting it with a Devon flag and a biker. This year's bottom team, 'Stibb Wanderers' thoroughly deserved the spoon with just 45% of the available points. They must have been looking forward to alternating the spoon around the team members mantle pieces. That is until somebody shouted out that they should auction the spoon off. An impromptu auction quickly ensued with Chris taking the spoon home for £10 donated to the night's cause.
Tension was high in Stibb Cross as Stephan Morris announced the order of the rest of the teams. There were a flurry of jokers on the last round so people had little idea of who had made the grade.
It turned out that 'Don't know' knew quite a lot, as they came in a very creditable 3rd with 48 points. Just topping them was 'Triumph' with 49 points, but taking the star prize was 'Arm Twisters' with an impressive 50 points.
Many thanks to everybody who turn up on the night or contributed in some way to making the evening such a success. |
